Day 7 - Andrea Atteberry
Dear RedHawk Friends,
Our day started off a little earlier than the past couple of days. We at the hotel for breakfast and we were on our way by 7:45 a.m. to our practice with one of the Brazilian national coaches. We practiced with the team that we played last night along with having one the national coach run the practice with the help of AD's translation. The girls were great to play with and we also enjoyed practicing with them. After practice we traded t-shirts and some girls even traded their shoes. Anything that we were willing trade, the girls were willing to have. Even though the communication was limited for the trading and during practice it seemed that they really enjoyed having us here. Practicing was also a great experience, where we learned new drills along with the national coach running the practice.
Leaving the club, we were back on the bus heading to lunch. We stopped at a local mall and went to the food court. All of the girls were "lovin it" at McDonalds- we really expanded our horizons on this meal! After eating we headed to our next destination where we played in our last international competition against Pinheiros. We played one match two out of three along with two more games. Only winning two out of the five games, we ended our competition part of our trip. Having this experience to play with different teams, learn about the volleyball culture, interacting with girls our age, while playing volleyball was an experience none of us will forget and we are all very thankful to have the chance to be apart of it.
With our last competition completed, we went back to the hotel to shower and get ready to go to another mall of course! We ate dinner at the food court, where once again we expanded our horizons eating at Pizza Hut and Subway! While at this very nice mall, many of us found great buys, including shoes, Brazilian t-shirts and jerseys. After another successful trip to the mall, we climbed on the bus for our ride back to the hotel for travels to Rio tomorrow!
