RedHawk Volleyball Finishes Spring Season with Fifth-Place Finish at Great Lakes College Spring Tournament
April 21, 2008
Miami University's volleyball team capped off its spring season with a fifth-place finish in the 24-team Great Lakes College Spring Tournament. The tournament consisted of Division I teams from conferences such as the MAC, ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, Missouri Valley, Atlantic 10 and Conference USA. Head Coach Carolyn Condit was pleased with the progress the team made during the spring season. "It was appropriate to end this season playing so well together in such a high profile tournament. We look forward to making further advances when we come together again in August," Condit said. All matches in the Great Lakes College Spring Tournament were a best out of three games format using a new scoring system to 25 points that will be used next season. The final game was played to 15 points. The RedHawks defeated Illinois-Chicago, South Carolina and Louisville in two games and Purdue in three games. The only defeat was to 2007 SEC West Champion and NCAA participant, Louisiana State University. Louisville and Purdue were both NCAA participants last season. Miami, the 2007 Mid-American Conference Tournament champions, begins its 2008 campaign on Friday, August 29, when the RedHawks welcome Saint Louis, Stephen F. Austin and a team to be announced to the Miami Best Western/Sycamore Inn Invitational.
