BUFFALO, N.Y. - Sophomore Karen Frazier earned Miami's best finish of the day with a second-place showing in the 200 breaststroke, but Miami University's women's swimming and diving team was unable to overcome its 70-point deficit heading into the final day of competition as the RedHawks finished fourth at the Mid-American Conference Championships. Ohio won the championships with a score of 679.5.

Freshman Miranda Kaltenborn clocked a time of 17:10.37 earning fifth-place honors in the 1650 freestyle and she was followed by junior Jenn Flaherty's ninth-place finish. Freshman Sarah Bullock earned the last point in the event with a 16th-place showing. Following the 1650 freestyle, Miami overtook Eastern Michigan for third place.

Junior Malarie Schmidt was the only RedHawk to qualify for the finals in the 200 backstroke and she touched the wall in a time of 2:05.00, which placed 12th. Following the 200 back, Miami slid back into fourth place overall, 12 points behind Eastern Michigan for third place.

Juniors Allison Stevens and Alyson Schmidt finished in third and fourth place, respectively, with times of 50.78 and 51.08 in the 100 freestyle and senior Kristen Bezier also scored points with a 12th place showing.

Sophomore Karen Frazier continued a tremendous showing at the conference championships with a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke, finishing four tenths of a second behind Toledo's Kylie Gamelier. Freshman Kelsey Vehr finished closely behind Frazier in a time of 2:19.42, adding 15 points to Miami's score with her fourth-place finish. Freshman Megan Brunn and junior Paige Iversen collected ninth and 14th place finishes to round out the RedHawk scoring in the event.
 

 

Ohio swept the top three positions in the 200 butterfly and Miami's only qualifier for the `A' final was senior Kathryn Stephens. Stephens clocked in with a time of 2:06.55, earning an eight place finish. Sophomore Allison Way added on another three points with a 14th-place showing.

Junior Melissa Roemmele and sophomore Kelsey Anagnos both finished in the Top 10 in the three-meter dive. Roemmele and Anagnos scored 260.70 and 249.05 points, respectively.

In the final event, Miami's 400 freestyle relay team earned 30 points with a fourth-place time of 3:26.80.

Ohio won the MAC Championships with a final score of 679.5. Toledo finished in second place with 605.5 points, while Eastern Michigan and Miami rounded out the top four spots with 575 points and 538 points, respectively.

Frazier, Allison Stevens and Vehr all earned First-Team All-MAC accolades for the RedHawks.
