Ring Ceremony: 2005 MAC Tournament Champions

Under the leadership of head coach Angie Jacobs, the winningest coach in Miami softball history with 150 victories, the Miami softball team capped its 2005 season by winning the MAC Tournament Championship and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the 31-year history of the program.

After reaching the finals of the MAC Tournament in both 2003 and 2004, the third time was the charm as the 2005 team went a perfect 4-0 in the conference tourney, clinching a trip to the NCAA Regional in Knoxville, Tennessee with a 5-2 win over Marshall in the finals.

After finishing the season with 34 wins and the school's first MAC Softball Tournament Championship and NCAA Regional appearance, numerous individual honors were collected. These individual honors included:

  • Two ALL-MAC Selections: 1st Team honoree Jackie Poggendorf and 2nd Team selection Christine Bills

  • Four MAC All-Tournament Team selections: Kristin Hays, Bianca Paz, Halle Popson and MAC Tournament M.V.P. Jackie Poggendorf

  • Senior team captain Jackie Poggendorf also was selected to the NFCA All Mid-East Regional Team.
