MUNCIE, Ind. -

The 2008 Miami University field hockey team experienced success in their first live action of out-of-season play, winning the Ball State Indoor Tournament on March 1 in Muncie, Ind.

The RedHawks downed Indiana University in the championship game, 4-1, to claim the tournament crown.

The participating teams included Ball State, Kent State, Indiana and the Richmond club team. Matches were played in the indoor 5 v 5 plus goalkeeper format.

Head coach Jill Reeve commented on the RedHawks' early success.

"I am very proud of the way our team competed. It was terrific to get a promosing snap shot of the type of team we are forming up to be. I am looking forward to seeing how we measure up as we begin our outdoor competitions."

The 2008 regular season begins with the Miami Kick-Off Classic on August 30 and 31. The RedHawks host Davidson at 12:30 p.m. on the 30th and Richmond at 11 a.m. on the 31st.
