Three RedHawks Earn Men's Track and Field USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honors July 20, 2007 OXFORD, Ohio--Three Miami University men's track and field athletes were recognized by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on the Division I Track and Field All-Academic Team. Tom Hermann (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington), Pat Sovacool (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Ignatius) and Michael Veatch (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) each earned the award for the RedHawks, which tied Eastern Michigan University for the most student-athletes from a school honored in the Mid-American Conference. Hermann, who was a senior, was an NCAA MidEast Regional Qualifier and a member of the All-MAC Academic Team. He was one of one of three Miamians to qualify for the regional meet. In his first career regional appearance, he placed 11th in the high jump (6-9). Hermann scored at the MAC Championships for the fourth straight season, finishing sixth in the high jump (6-6 3/4). Sovacool, who just completed his sophomore season, was an NCAA MidEast Regional Qualifier and member of the All-MAC Academic Team. Sovacool is a back-to-back regional qualifier in the 1,500 meters, finishing 22nd (3:58.06) at the regional meet in the 1,500 meters in 2007. At the 2007 MAC Championships, Sovacool placed third in the 1,500 meters (3:59.65). Veatch, who just completed his junior campaign, also was an NCAA MidEast Regional Qualifier and member of the All-MAC Academic Team. This year, he made his first career appearance at the regional meet in the steeplechase, placing 17th (9:11.48). Veatch scored at the MAC Championships in two events, finishing third in the steeplechase (8:58.45) and seventh in the 5,000 meters (14:56.99). His third-place steeplechase finish was the highest finish for a Miamian at the MAC Championships, while his time ranked fifth in program history.
The USTFCCCA Division I Track and Field All-Academic Team is comprised of 233 student-athletes from 88 colleges and universities. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grad-point average of 3.25 and obtain an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark for the most recent indoor championships or an outdoor regional qualifying mark in their respective event. |
