COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Miami University men's track and field team turned in another set of impressive performances on the first day of the Jesse Owens Track Classic at Ohio State University.

Michael Veatch was the finished as the top collegiate runner, 10th overall, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, ending in 8:58.51. Veatch kept pace with the world-class runners participating in the event and finished with his third best time of his career. Ryan Dezso was 27th in the steeplechase with a time of 9:26.34.

Pat Sovacool ran a blazing time of 3:45.96, setting a personal record in the 1,500 meters, finishing second and hitting another NCAA Regional qualifying mark. He remains No. 5 on the all-time on the Miami top-performances list and finished behind only the Big Ten champion in the event.

In the 5,000 meters, Kevin Silver ran a great tactical race in the windy conditions and took fourth with a time of 14:52.02. Paul Krebs ended in 10th place at 15:11.19, while Chris Dennison was 12th at 15:13.26.

Dan Beach was 20th in the discus, setting a personal best with a mark of 157-6.

Day Two of the Jesse Owens Track Classic get underway tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at Jesse Owens Stadium.
