Men's Swimming and Diving Heads to MAC/Sun Belt Championships

After defeating the Ball State Cardinals in its final dual meet of the season, the Miami men's swimming and diving team travels to Nashville, Tenn. for the MAC/Sun Belt Championships this weekend. Action begins on Thursday, Feb. 28 and concludes Saturday, March 1. The RedHawks ended their regular season on a high note two weeks ago as they came out on top versus Ball State, 163-136. Miami earned first place finishes in three of the five freestyle events, as senior Paul Ricard began the streak with his time of 48.30 in the 100 free. Freshman Jason Hass then secured a narrow first in the 200 free in 1:45.93. Finally, junior Scott DuCharme captured first with a time of 9:55.73 in the 1000 free, and later earned a close second in the 500 free. Sophomore Dave Brown scored for the RedHawks with two second-place finishes. He finished less than two seconds behind DuCharme in the 1000 free with a time of 9:57.38, and earned another second in the 50 free in 22.09. It was an outstanding night for Miami's divers as well as junior Chris Heaton and freshman Ian Ballard notched first and second place finishes, respectively, in both the one- and three-meter dives. In the one-meter, Heaton scored a 333.22, while Ballard earned a 263.47. In the three-meter, Heaton was on top again with a 368.02, while Ballard was close behind with a 300.68. The next stop following the MAC/Sun Belt Championships will be the NCAA Swimming Championships in Federal Way, Washington on March 27-29. Full Championship information can be found by clicking here.
