NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Miami University's men's swimming and diving team earned three top-five finishes in the Mid-American Conference/Sun Belt Championships as Miami sits in fifth place following day one of competition. Seniors Paul Ricard and Ryan McHugh earned third- and fourth-place finishes in the 500 freestyle and 50 freestyle, respectively, while junior Chris Heaton finished in second-place in the one-meter dive.

Miami's 200 freestyle relay team, consisting of sophomore Dave Brown, freshman John Eick and seniors Nick DuPuis McHugh started the Championships with a fifth-place finish, registering a time of 1:22.56.

Ricard bested his preliminary time in the 500 freestyle by over two seconds as he was the only RedHawk swimmer to qualify for the `A' or `B' final. Ricard clocked in with a time of 4:28.24, giving him a third-place finish and adding 16 points to Miami's total.

The RedHawks were unable to score any points in the 200 individual medley, but McHugh collected a top-five finish with a fourth-place time of 20.40 in the 50 freestyle.

Miami took sixth place in the 400 medley relay, before Heaton scored Miami's top finish of the night with a second-place showing in the one-meter dive. Heaton scored 328.80 in his dives, finishing behind Denver's Aaron Feight.

Denver and Missouri State lead after day one with both teams scoring 205 points apiece. Eastern Michigan sits in third place with 177.5 points, Western Kentucky is in fourth place with 147.5 points and Miami resides in fifth place with 109 points.
