Bramos Nails Nine 3-Pointers but RedHawks Clipped by Flyers, 63-62
Nov. 28, 2007
OXFORD, Ohio (AP) -- Brian Roberts' 3-pointer with five seconds remaining capped a second-half comeback that lifted Dayton over Miami Wednesday night 63-62. Miami (3-2) opened the game with 10 straight points and did not trail in the game until Roberts' 3-pointer. The RedHawks led by as many 19 during a first half that saw Michael Bramos make seven 3-pointers on his way to scoring 25 points over the first 20 minutes -- seven more than Dayton (4-1).
But the Flyers stormed back in the second half, closing to within one with 3:34 left and then staying close until the game's final minute. Bramos made two free throws to expand the RedHawks' lead to three with 23 seconds left. Roberts followed that with a jumper, and then Bramos missed one free throw and made another to give Miami a two-point lead with 13 seconds left. Roberts hit his 3-pointer seconds later. Roberts had 20 points, Kurt Huelsman had 14 and Chris Wright 12 for Dayton, which shot 67.9 percent in the second half after shooting just 30.4 percent in the first. The Flyers also out-rebounded Miami 15-7 and outscored the RedHawks 45-29 in the second. Bramos finished with 36 points and nine 3-pointers -- both career-highs. Tim Pollitz added 13 points for Miami.
NOTES: Junior Michael Bramos' 36 points were the most points scored in a game since Wally Szczerbiak scored 43 against Washington in 1999 during the NCAA Tournament. Bramos set was one trey short of Miami's single game record and is second on the RedHawks' single-game 3-point field goal list with nine against the Flyers. Junior center Tyler Dierkers led all players in rebounds and assists with seven and six, respectively. Dierkers now has 26 assists in his last four games.
The RedHawks hit 7-of-16 first-half three-pointers, with all of the made 3-pointers coming from Bramos. Michael Bramos became the first Miami player to score 30 points in back-to-back games since Juby Johnson in 2004. Johnson scored 31 at Kent State on March 3, 2004 and followed up that game with a 30 point effort against Marshall at Millett Hall on March 5, 2004. Bramos had 30 points against Mississippi State on Nov. 25. The RedHawks opened the game on a 10-0 run, keeping Dayton off the scoreboard until the 15:09 mark of the opening half. Through the first 11 minutes, Miami had outscored the Flyers 20-4. |
