Cheerleading Information:

Tryouts for the 2008-2009 Miami University Cheerleading Squad will take place April 18-20, 2008.
Registration will begin on April 18, at 6:00pm in the Walter L. Gross Jr. Family Student- Athlete Development Center
at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

April 18Registration 6:00pm-9:00pm (Gross Center)Non-refundable registration fee of $50.00 for those needing room and board (fee includes both nights).
Non-refundable registration fee of $25.00 for those that DO NOT need room accommodations.
Fees include Miami University Cheerleader T-shirt.
April 19Training Session 9:00am-7:00pm (Millett Hall)

All current Miami University students and high school seniors are eligible to participate in tryouts. All participants must show proof of acceptance to the Oxford Campus of Miami University and proof of a physical within the past year.

The 2008-2009 Miami University Cheerleading Squad will consist only of a full-coed team. The full-coed team will consist of eight coed couples (8 females and 8 males).

The top six scoring males and the top six scoring females will serve as the 2008-2009 travel squad.

The Miami University cheerleading program is truly among one of the legendary programs in the country with a rich tradition of excellence. Candidates are expected to be able to display outstanding cheerleading skills and the exceptional candidate must also have strong communication skills.

Tryouts will be judged by an impartial review panel comprised of past cheerleaders, coaches and athletic administrators. The Miami University Cheerleading coaching staff will make the final decision on which individuals will comprise the 2008-2009 team.

We recommend that you wear comfortable red, white and black athletic attire and stunt shoes to all training sessions and your official scoring.

Requirements

Stunting Ability Some experience recommended. Examples include toss stunts such as liberties, extensions, cupies, heel-stretches, etc. Coed and/or All-girl stunting recommended. Examples include liberties, heel-stretches, fulldowns, extensions, cupies, etc.
Interview Strong communication skills Strong communication skills

***Candidates not able to perform the above skills may be considered if he/she shows exceptional ability in areas that will help improve our cheerleading program. These abilities include excellent stunting ability, strong interview skills, outstanding athletic ability etc.

Reponsibilities

If chosen for the team, cheerleaders are required to fulfill their responsibilities as a representative for Miami University. Practice begins in early August. The season is complete by the first week of April. Cheerleaders must be willing to possibly give up their Fall, Spring, Winter and Holiday breaks to cover events scheduled by the coaching staff. Cheerleaders may also be asked to miss class to cover events (i.e. post season play). University excuses will be provided for any missed class. Classes missed for cheerleading responsibilities rarely occur.
